The Royal Oak, Car Colston
Sitting beside the Common, The Royal Oak is very much part of village life in Car Colston.
The building is more than 200 years old and has an intriguing past. It is believed by some to have originally been used as a hosiery factory, a theory supported by the distinctive vaulted brick ceiling in the bar, which may once have been designed to carry the weight of textile machinery above.
Today, the Royal Oak is a traditional country pub and restaurant run by Richard, Vicky and the team.
It has won the Vale of Belvoir and Nottinghamshire CAMRA Pub of the Year on several occasions, including 2009, 2020 and 2021.
Food, drink and village life
The pub serves lunch and dinner alongside traditional real ales and has outdoor seating overlooking the village surroundings. Its menu includes a mixture of pub favourites as well as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.
There is also a skittle alley, beer garden and camping facilities.
Its position beside Car Colston Common makes it particularly special in the warmer months. Cricket is played nearby through the summer and the pub provides a natural meeting place for residents, walkers, visitors and anyone exploring the village.
