About the walk

A lovely short circular walk through the countryside between Car Colston and Screveton, ideal for anyone wanting to explore the two villages without committing to a longer hike.

The route takes you through a predominantly rural landscape of fields, footpaths and quiet lanes, with the villages themselves providing plenty of local character along the way.

It is an easy-distance walk, although this is working countryside so conditions underfoot can vary considerably. Paths may be muddy after wet weather and agricultural activity can affect field paths at different times of year.

The Route

If you're starting or finishing in Car Colston, take some time to enjoy Car Colston Common.

Unlike an ordinary public footpath, the Common is officially designated open-access land, so walkers are allowed to leave the paths and explore it on foot.

Please remember that livestock graze on the Common and it is an important part of village life.

Parking

Please do not park or drive on Car Colston Common.

Visitors to Car Colston can use the Royal Oak car park, which is the designated parking location for the village.

Walking responsibly

Much of the land surrounding Car Colston and Screveton is working farmland, so please:

  • follow public rights of way and waymarkers

  • keep dogs under close control and on leads around livestock

  • close gates behind you

  • leave crops and livestock undisturbed

  • take litter home

  • wear suitable footwear

  • expect mud and uneven ground, particularly during wet weather

Thank you!
