Caring for our Hall and preparing it for its next 100 years
Our plans for the Village Hall
Car Colston & Screveton Village Hall has been at the heart of village life for generations. As we look towards its centenary in 2028, we want to make sure the Hall remains a welcoming, useful and beautiful place for our community for many years to come.
We are developing a programme of improvements to both the inside and outside of the Hall. Some are practical, helping with comfort, energy efficiency and maintenance, while others are about making the building feel more considered, characterful and inviting.
The aim is not to turn the Hall into something it is not. It is about caring for what is already here, improving what needs attention and making the building work better for everyone who uses it.
Our Vision
A Village Hall that feels as good as the community it serves.
Warm, welcoming and full of character, with thoughtful improvements that respect the building’s history and make it work beautifully for the next generation.

A Warmer Welcome
Entrance and exterior
We would like to improve the arrival experience so the Hall feels more welcoming from the moment you approach it.
This includes replacing the existing entrance doors with new double doors that are more in keeping with the character of the building while also improving security and energy efficiency.
New windows
Replacing the Hall’s windows is one of our most important priorities.
The current windows need attention and new ones would make a real difference to warmth, comfort and energy efficiency. They would also give us the opportunity to create a softer, more cohesive look across the building.
We are exploring a muted heritage green for the windows and entrance so the exterior feels considered as a whole and sits comfortably with the Hall’s brickwork and rural setting.
Inside the Hall
A space that works for village life
The Hall needs to do a lot. It hosts everything from yoga classes and meetings to children’s activities, celebrations, fundraising evenings and community events.
The interior therefore, needs to remain flexible and practical, but we also want it to feel warmer and more enjoyable to spend time in.
Our plans include:
Decoration and colour
A warmer, more sympathetic palette that complements the age and character of the building.
Lighting
Softer, more considered lighting that works well for both daytime activities and evening events.
Furniture and furnishings
Simple, durable furniture that can withstand village hall life while making the room feel less institutional.
Signage and finishing touches
A more consistent visual style inside and outside, connected to the refreshed Village Hall website and identity.

What happens next
These improvements will be delivered in stages as funding allows.
Our current focus is on the areas that will make the biggest difference to the Hall’s comfort, appearance and long-term future, including the windows and entrance.
We will continue to share plans and updates as the project develops.
Help us improve the Hall
The Village Hall is run for the benefit of the community and improvements like these depend on fundraising and local support.
Every event, ticket purchase, donation and offer of help contributes towards caring for the Hall and preparing it for its next 100 years.
A glimpse of what we’re working towards
The images below are concept visuals created with the help of AI to show the kind of look and feel we’re exploring for the Hall.
They are not final designs and some details will inevitably change as plans develop, costs are confirmed and practical considerations are worked through. They are simply intended to give a sense of the direction we’re aiming for.
We hope the finished improvements will feel warm, characterful and sympathetic to the building, while making the Hall more comfortable, welcoming and enjoyable to use.

These AI-generated visuals are simply intended to show the direction we’re exploring. They are not final designs, but they give a feel for the colours, materials and atmosphere we hope to create as the Hall develops.
