Car Colston Cricket Club
Car Colston Cricket Club has been part of village life since 1864 with cricket played on Car Colston Common in the heart of the village. It is a wonderfully traditional setting for the game and one that makes summer Sundays in Car Colston rather special.
The club describes itself as friendly, sociable and inclusive and welcomes players of all ages, genders and abilities. Whether you are an experienced cricketer, haven’t played since school or simply fancy giving it a go, new players are encouraged to get in touch.
Come and watch
The club plays friendly cricket at home on Sundays between April and September, making the Common a lovely place to spend a summer afternoon. Visitors and spectators are very welcome, so you certainly don’t need to play cricket to enjoy the club.
Car Colston is particularly unusual in retaining the tradition of cricket played directly on the village green. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club has previously described it as the "only club in Nottinghamshire still playing on the village green".
Presidents’ Day
One of the highlights of the club calendar is its annual Presidents’ Day, traditionally featuring a match against neighbouring Flintham Cricket Club for the John Gilbert Trophy. The day brings players, supporters and villagers together for cricket and a summer gathering on the Common and has become a much-loved part of village life.
